UM...what is 'Service Design' and how does it make our lives better?
Phil took some time-out of his busy schedule to come and talk to our design team about the fascinating subject of ‘Service Design’, namely ‘what is it & how does it improve our lives.’
Phil is a fantastic communicator and really demonstrated his ability to talk about some very complex issues in a way that was easy to understand.
I guess we all know that everything that is man-made is designed, but so much of what we experience on a daily basis we tend to take for granted. For instance when we take a flight whether it be for a holiday or a business trip, the full journey from arriving at the airport to the moment we take-off can range from being a schlep from hell to (hopefully) seamless. Well, if it’s the latter, it’s people like Phil that have designed it that way. He designs complex customers journeys that aim to allow our movements to be as frictionless as possible.
Here at Missouri we spend a lot of our time mapping out different kinds of customer and shopper journeys. Ours tend to result in the purchase of a bottle of spirits, maybe a holiday or perhaps a pair of trainers - not quite the same, but then again maybe it is.
